Easyrider LAN Pro (Portland, OR)
1990 - Present
Senior IT Consultant
Enterprise Security - Network Engineering - Systems Engineering
Proactive Network Monitoring: As a professional Consultant, I have designed,
built and maintained many of the early
Network Operations Centers (NOC) in the Pacific Northwest. This includes NOCs
and proactive monitoring environments at Tektronix, Boeing, Electric Lightwave, Kaiser
Permanente, Portland General Electric, Freightliner and DAT (Jubitz) to name just a
few.
UNIX, Linux, Microsoft and Network Administration: A career specialty is filling
in for key Administrators who leave their employment
with little or no notice, and often times on bad terms. I am very adept at "figuring
out" how everything is glued together even in cases where documentation is sparse or
non-existent. In some cases I have taken over networks where no one but the
departed employee knew any of the root, Admin and/or enable passwords. Obviously,
these are very challenging assignments. Some happy clients are The State of Oregon
Board of Medical Examiners (OBME), Portland General Electric, DAT, Attachmate and
Surplus Direct, to name just a few.
Computer Security: I am heavily involved with enterprise security issues.
I have written a series of white papers on the subject. It is my belief that many
IT organizations are not currently giving the matter of network security sufficient
focus. This is largely due to shrinking IT budgets, reduced IT staffing and
competing IT priorities coupled with the fact that there have not been any truly
9/11 security events as of yet. I believe that it is only a matter of time before
organized criminal and Government sponsored hacking activities force a change in
Corporate priorities. I have been working very hard the past several years to
prepare myself for these inevitable consulting opportunities.
